Troy McGill, MPT, PHD, SCS, DIP, MDT

Troy E. McGill, PT, Ph.D., SCS, Dip MDT is a highly accomplished healthcare executive, physical therapist, educator, and retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel with extensive experience leading complex healthcare operations, developing high-performing clinical teams, and advancing patient-centered care. With a career spanning military medicine, hospital systems, and outpatient therapy services, he has successfully led multi-site rehabilitation, orthopedic, neuro, and performance-based service lines while driving growth, operational excellence, and quality outcomes.

Dr. McGill earned his Ph.D. in Physical Therapy with an emphasis in Healthcare Operations from Nova Southeastern University, where his dissertation examined the efficiency of physical therapists serving as primary care musculoskeletal providers compared to family practice providers in a military treatment facility. He also holds a Master of Physical Therapy from Wichita State University, completed a two year residency training through the McKenzie Institute International/St. David’s Spine Center, giving him Diplomate status with the McKenzie institute international, and is a Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS).

Before transitioning to civilian healthcare leadership and clinical practice, Dr. McGill served more than two decades in the United States Air Force, where he held multiple senior leadership roles in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and healthcare operations. His military career included command positions in Alaska, Washington, Florida, Afghanistan, and Nepal, where he pioneered direct access physical therapy models, led human performance initiatives, improved return-to-duty rates, and contributed to large-scale Department of Defense healthcare innovation efforts. He was also recognized as a subject matter expert for major DoD electronic health record implementation and as a highly sought-after educator in musculoskeletal care and healthcare leadership.

In addition to his executive and clinical leadership, Dr. McGill has contributed significantly to the profession with more than 40 peer reviewed publications, research, national presentations, and healthcare innovation awards. His work has focused on musculoskeletal care, mechanical diagnosis and therapy, direct access physical therapy, outcomes measurement, and value-based care. He has received numerous honors throughout his career, including the Air Force Medical Service Outstanding Achievement in Innovation Award, Air Force Physical Therapists of the year on four separate occasions, the Dennis Hart International Research Award, and the Alaska Hospital & Healthcare Association Healthcare Champion and Patient Safety & Quality Awards.

Dr. McGill is widely respected for his integrity, strategic vision, commitment to mentorship, and passion for building systems that improve both patient outcomes and provider development.

Dr. McGill is specialty trained to assess and treat the spine and headache patient. His patient outcomes as measured by a CMS validated provider place him in the top 5% of PT internationally.
