EMPOWER PERFORMANCE EXERCISE AND INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM

Most sports injuries are caused by lack of knowledge, improper sportswear, incorrect practices, and wrong sports equipment. The idea of injury prevention is to focus training to significantly decrease the chance of a preventable initial injury from occurring and, also help to avoid other future injuries as a result. Proper training techniques, warm-ups and cool downs are just some of the ways to help mitigate the risk of injuries.
What makes this different than other programs?
At Empower, we take a medical approach to injury prevention. Our tailor-made programs for individuals and groups aim to educate and prevent injuries. Our team, consisting of Exercise Physiologists, Physical Therapists, and Personal Trainers, evaluates each athlete’s specific movement, running posture, and sport specific mechanics to improve their overall posture, performance, and reduce injury risk. With our expertise, we analyze, predict, and prevent potential injuries.
What age group will benefit?
Our injury prevention program benefits all ages and skill levels, whether recovering from an injury or participating in sports with a high risk of specific injuries. We provide specific injury prevention exercises and help athletes achieve their fitness goals, such as increasing speed, power, mobility, or strength.
We also focus on educating athletes about:
- Proper warm-up and cool-down routines
- Proper sports-specific gear and equipment
- Correct form and mechanics during movements
- Hydration and Nutrition tips
- Sleep
- Other essential topics
Our mission at Empower Physical Therapy and Empower Performance is to prevent injuries in the community and educate coaches, athletes, and fellow Alaskans. We believe in the healing power of movement and strive to empower everyone to pursue their aspirations.

PROLONGED SITTING CAN STRESS YOUR BODY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY. PREVENT INJURIES AND IMPROVE COMFORT AT YOUR WORKSTATION BY FOLLOWING THESE GENERAL OFFICE ERGONOMICS GUIDELINES:
Chair:
- Position the lumbar support to support the natural curve of your lower back.
- Ensure your spine (low and middle back) is fully supported, forming an “S” shape.
- Relax your shoulders, keep your elbows bent, and support your forearms on the desk.
- Maintain a 1-2 inch gap between your knees and the front of the chair.
- Align your shoulders slightly behind the hips and keep your knees level with your hips.
- Keep your chair pulled in close to the desk.
Feet:
- Keep your feet flat on the floor or use a footrest for support
Keyboard and Mouse:
- Position your keyboard and mouse far enough back on the desk or keyboard tray to rest your forearms on the desk, not relying on your shoulders and neck to hold them up.
- If using a keyboard tray, adjust its height to allow your arms to hang down comfortably.
- Keep the keyboard in a neutral (flat) position to avoid wrist strain.
- Keep your mouse within easy reach to prevent excessive reaching.
Monitor:
- Place your monitor an arm’s length away from you.
- Position your screen (height and angle) to maintain a neutral neck position, allowing you to look straight ahead at the screen without tilting up or down.
- If using multiple monitors, place the most frequently used one closer to the center in front of you.
